What to expect

What’s happening to my baby?

Your baby is now getting big. From this point on they are putting on about 200-250g per week, and will continue to do so for the remainder of the pregnancy. Their wrinkly appearance is quickly disappearing as fat stores rapidly build up beneath their skin. By week 31, they are now measuring around 44cm in total height, and may weigh as much as 2kg.

What’s happening to me?

This expansion of weight and height might continue to make you feel light-headed or breathless, and you should take it easy with your movement and activity. How you walk might be changing to accommodate the added weight and your altered centre of gravity. Members of the public will be easily able to tell you’re pregnant and will probably offer up seats and other small ways of helping.

You might already be in talks with your specialist or midwife about a birth plan and any pain relief you are considering taking during childbirth. It’s important to acknowledge that these should be flexible as every birth is different, and circumstances can rapidly change when the big day comes.
